Media

The media controls a lot of what we see today, it plays a part in shaping our identity. Though the media is such a big part of our culture, it's portrayals of race, class and reality is often wrong. In television and movies minorities are often left out a lot or have small roles in main stream media. The representation of class is also another thing that the media often portrays wrong, as we discussed in class. Minority actors and actresses tend to get placed in the typical roles of what we been seeing through media for a long time. Roles like janitor work, housekeeping and being the token are some examples of what the media often show. With that said, media has also come a very long way from the way it used to be. A lot of minority actors and actresses stepped up and opened a lot of doors and things are not as one sided as they used to be. In today's media minorities have tackled big roles and earned the respect they deserve but as good and equal as everything may look to us it's really not. Yes the exposure is a lot more but now this issue is being covered up by the media. Just because a few people have been able to make changes for minorities things are still not very equal. I think that it is going to take a lot more than what has been done already for us to see more diversity in the main stream media. I was once told do not believe everything that you hear in the media. After sitting back and analyzing everything about the media I picked up on things that still need to be fixed. I think if we all sat down and just pay closer attention we would see a lot more things that are wrong.
